Shalom is God's gift to his people that is life encompassing mercy, truth, justice, righteousness and reconciliation. The opposite of shalom is a wrong perception of God's kingdom.
Our worship of God is not always pleasing in His sight because of our lack of holiness. God calls Christians to purity and expects right living from his worshipers.
Jesus took the theology of His day and turned it on its head. He expanded on it and breathed new life into it. Should we do the same? Ask Hank Deuteronomy, who still attempts to run his family via Old Testament law.
Therefore take up the whole armor of God, so that you may be able to withstand on that evil day, and having done everything, to stand firm. Stand therefore, and fasten the belt of truth around your waist, and put on the breastplate of righteousness. As shoes for your feet put on whatever will make you ready to proclaim the gospel of peace. With all of these, take the shield of faith, with which you will be able to quench all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.
You must understand this, my beloved: let everyone be quick to listen, slow to speak, slow to anger; for your anger does not produce God's righteousness.
